Yolanda
Gayol was named program director of distance education at the Graduate
School. In her new position, Gayol will provide oversight of the development,
direction, and promotion of the Master of Distance Education Program,
teach three courses per year, recruit and monitor adjunct faculty, and
advise students. Previously, she worked as an online faculty member at
Athabasca University (Canada), in the global distance learning network
at the World Bank, and as distance education specialist at the InterAmerican
Development Bank. Gayol also was distance education coordinator at the
National Autonomous University of Mexico and associate academic director
of the distance education project Educom. Gayol has a doctoral degree
in adult education, specializing in distance education, from the Pennsylvania
State University.
Husein
Abdul-Hamid joined UMUC as director of course evaluations.
He has a PhD in statistics and an MS in computer science from American
University. Prior to joining UMUC, Abdul-Hamid worked at American University
as assistant professor of statistics and manager of the Social Science
Research Center, and at the World Bank.
