Consul General Visits Mannheim Campus

Consul General Peter Bodde of the Frankfurt American Consulate visited UMUC’s Mannheim Campus May 5, 2003, to discuss American-German relations and his experiences as a student of the Munich Campus.

As a 1974 alumnus of the two-year program, Bodde opened with a statement about the value of an overseas education. He encouraged students to learn a foreign language and to reach out and strengthen their ties with the Germans. Bodde also discussed the diplomatic changes that have taken place between the United States and Germany since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. He suggested that Germany’s long and productive history with the U.S., combined with the country’s shared core values, will be long lasting and will outweigh the current disagreements between the countries.

"I implore you to commit yourselves to Europe,” Bodde said, in conclusion. “Get out there and be active.” Following his lecture, Bodde met with students and faculty to reminisce about his student days at the Munich Campus.
