Security and Preparedness Initiatives Implemented at UMUC

Since September 11, 2001, the university has initiated several new policies and procedures to provide a safer working environment for UMUC employees. Below are some of the actions that the university has taken.

The Emergency Response Plan was updated to include additional emergency information and procedures.
A public address system has been installed in the SFSC.
UMUC’s Security staff have completed additional security awareness training.
The Closed Circuit Camera/Television System was upgraded to a digital system in December. There are now a total of 72 cameras installed on the Adelphi campus.
Additional mail and package delivery security procedures have been implemented in the mailroom.
Emergency Alert radios were purchased for the Security Department in October.
Emergency preparedness supplies, including flashlights, batteries, battery-operated radios, light sticks, and first aid supplies, have been purchased and stored by Security.
Additional Contractor Security Procedures were implemented in December.

The university is continuing to develop procedures and mechanisms for enhancing security and preparedness and will keep you informed as these are implemented.
