Code Red Terrorism Alert

In the event that the Federal Homeland Security Advisory System is set at “Severe (Red), the following actions will be implemented in addition to all those initiated under Code Orange:

  • Parking outside of the parking garage will be prohibited, except in case of a previously arranged delivery. Guest drop-off procedures will be strictly enforced.
  • Luggage and packages accepted for storage at the hotel will be inspected in the presence of the person(s) requesting storage.
  • Access to Drazek Circle will be limited.
  • Access to the ICC and SFSC buildings will be restricted.
  • A temporary walkway will be constructed between the SFSC and ICC buildings on the ground level directly beneath the 3rd floor catwalk, in order to control access to the buildings.
  • The university may declare Code Red Liberal Leave for non-essential staff.
Under Code Red Liberal Leave, nonessential regular and contingent II employees may use available annual, personal, or comp leave to cover late arrivals, early departures, or absence from work for the entire day. If no paid leave is available, approved leave without pay may be used.

In a Code Red Liberal Leave situation, eligible staff are required to notify their supervisors of their absence, but normal advance leave request procedures are not required. In addition, given that the university is open, staff should make every effort to indicate that they are not available (i.e., changing voicemail and engaging "auto-reply email"). Student workers and contingent I employees do not earn leave. They are paid only for the hours they work.

When enacted, the Code Red Liberal Leave status will be reviewed and updated on a daily basis. Information on leave status can be accessed via the web on the Weather/Emergency Information link, or the Weather/Emergency Phone Line at 301-985-SNOW (7669).
