What to Do in an Emergency

What To Do In An Emergency
If an emergency situation materializes, ranging from severe weather to terrorist attack, employees should continue to access updated information on the university through the following resources:

  • The weather/emergency link on the home page of the UMUC web site.

  • The UMUC Weather/Emergency Line at 301-985-7669 (SNOW).
Remember NOT to rely on the general media, as they often confuse us with other USM institutions, or may erroneously report the university's status.
In addition, the university also will utilize email, emergency radios, and the public address systems if a situation occurs during work hours.
The University of Maryland College Park Department of Public Safety has implemented an Early Warning Emergency Siren Program to provide instant notification to the campus of imminent, dangerous conditions.

When activated, all personnel are instructed to seek shelter in the closest building, preferably on the lowest level and in an interior hallway.

Information on the alert status can be obtained via radio on 88.1 FM or 1640 AM, via the web at www.umd.edu or by phoning 301-405-7669.
