Biography
I am currently attending the University of Maryland University College pursuing my Bachelors of Science with a major in Forensics. Prior to college, I was a Medical Specialist in the United States Army National Guard. I am originally from New Haven, CT and currently residing in Germantown, MD. In my current position, I am an IT Technician and Instructor for a prestigious real estate MLS. I am the Vice President of my sorority, Nu Sigma Alpha. Nu Sigma Alpha is a sorority that was started and founded on August 8, 2008, by Alysha Rhodes, my best friend and myself. We have always had this vision of being a part of a sisterhood that embraced all women regardless of color, religion, body size or social status. We also focus on giving back to the community and mentoring our youth.
I have a very bright future ahead; my five year plan is to graduate from UMUC as and undergrad, pursue my Master’s and become a Crime Scene Investigator. My overall goal is to obtain my Doctorate and become a Forensic Scientist and work for an organization such as the FBI and/or another government agency. I have such a passion for Forensics that I know my goals will be met with hard work and dedication.
Nomination Essay
I would be a great candidate for the STAC because I am a great listener, problem-solver, equal opportunist, and I have dedication. I would like to be apart of the STAC because I am focused on giving the students of UMUC a voice and keeping students informed of the issues that directly impact them. I have been a college student for 3 years and in the workforce for many. In my experiences in both fields, the lack of communication was always a factor that would cause employees or students to be upset, uncooperative, stressed and peeved with the company or school. I want to make student life less stressed. Students already have the stress of finals, midterms, term papers etc. With one less stress factor, communication, students will be more satisfied. I would also like to plan more student events and develop student organizations on campus. I have a lot of experience with being on committees such as the STAC. At my current place of employment, I developed and chaired our Peer Advisory Group and Moral Building Committee. In the Peer Advisory Group, I would meet with my peers and talk with them to find out the issues they were having in the workplace and present them to management along with possible solutions. On the Moral Building Committee we would meet once a week and plan activities that were team building and moral boosters. After two years, both groups are still in existence today and they are very successful.
