Biography
My name is Mr. Christopher Donnell Jr. Smith, I am presently an Undergraduate Student at UMUC; Major: Buiness Administration, Minor: Speech Communication.
I am 25 years old, and I am the eldest of 5; 3 sisters (Kassandra, Latoyia, & Janay) and a brother (Darrius). My parents are Mrs. Tracy Denise Buchanan and Mr. Donnell William Wall.
Being the eldest child, of both of my parents, it has always been a desire of mine to be a great leader and example. I grew up in a small town in North Carolina, and later relocated to Tampa, Florida before finding my new home in Maryland. As a child, I was always creative; writing poems, writing books, writing & singing music, etc. My creativity and ability to overcome adversities has made me the strong willed, dream filled, and destined young man that I am today.
Nomination Essay
Being a part of the Student Advisory Council means more than just being a great leader. Being a part of the Student Advisory Council is an opportunity for one to speak the thoughts, views, and opinions of many. A member of the Student Advisory Council must be dependable, accountable, and a person of integrity. I am that person.
Growing up in the church, I learned that in order for one to be a great leader they must also be an exceptional follower. I have a warm and inviting heart, providing me the ability to help others. Through my years of schooling, I participated in several leadership positions and gained the respect of many of my fellow classmates. This respect I continue to build upon, now as an adult.
I have won various awards, through my time, but none of them amount to the satisfaction of being able to help those in need; whether it be a shoulder to cry on, a counselor in tough situations, or just simply being a great friend to those that I meet.
I am not one to boast about any of the accomplishments that I have been blessed to obtain. I am a real person, someone that you can count on and someone that believes in the power of "one voice" and change. I am rooted in the values of treating people equally and helping people reach their dreams and goals. I am known by many as an "angel" or a "breath of fresh air."
With your help, through nominating me to be a member of UMUC's Student Advisory Council, I give you my solemn vow to be there when you need me and to be a voice of change. I understand the importance of tradition, but I strongly believe in growth and building the character of those around me. A saying that I hide in my heart is: "TO PROMOTE POSITIVITY IS A VIRTUE... TO LIVE POSITIVELY IS THE LIFE I CHOOSE FOR ME. WHAT CHOICE WILL YOU MAKE? LIVE TO LOVE AND LOVE TO LIVE"
Once again, to the students and faculty of UMUC, my name is Mr. Christopher Donnell Jr. Smith; your leader, your friend, and your voice.
And I thank you.
