By voluntarily taking the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) and achieving a score of 600 or higher, applicants to the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Master of Business Administration (MBA) program can choose to opt out of taking AMBA 600 MBA Fundamentals. These applicants would enroll in AMBA 601 The Role of Managers and Organizations in Society as their first course in the program.

Completion of the GMAT is not required for admission to the MBA program at UMUC, but applicants may take the test if they desire to opt out of AMBA 600. Students with a GMAT score of 600 or above should do well in the MBA program. All other program requirements are the same for students whether or not they take the GMAT.
