In 1974, Dr. Versace was named Director of the Office of Highway Safety Research for the State of Maryland. His major accomplishment was the design and implementation of the Maryland Provisional License Program for youthful drivers, the first in the nation. He served in that capacity until 1978 when he entered Federal service with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation. In 1980, Dr. Versace was named as Director of Plans and Programs for the Associate Administration for Research and Development. In that position, he served as the approving authority for all IT related activities, budget, and contract program for Research and Development. In 1990, Dr. Versace accepted a full Professorship with the National Defense University, Information Resources Management College. As a Professor of Systems Management and Acquisition, Dr. Versace led the development of four major acquisition courses for the Defense Acquisition University, creating the first, fully electronic classroom at the National Defense University. He has been certified a Level III Acquisition Professional within the Department of Defense. In 1997, Dr.Versace joined the University of Maryland University College as the Associate Director for Executive Programs, where he is responsible for the development of the Executive Master's Program in Information Technology. Dr. Versace has served on the adjunct faculty of the University of Maryland since 1972 and the George Washington University since 1991.
