Students receiving federal financial aid have the responsibility to follow the institution’s withdrawal procedures as outlined on p. 14 of this catalog. The 1998 Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act requires the university to calculate a return of Title IV funds for all federal financial aid students who withdraw from all classes on or before the 60-percent attendance point in the semester. UMUC is required to return to the federal programs any award funds that were “unearned” based on the percentage of attendance. Students who stop attending all classes without officially withdrawing are also subject to a return of funds calculation at the end of the semester based on the last documented date of attendance as determined by the teachers. For further information, students should refer to the UMUC Guide to Financial Aid.See also Federal Return of Funds Policy.
