Internet Explorer: Issue - Unable to Download or Open Content Documents

Issue:

I turned off the pop up blocker in IE, but I'm still not able to download or open content documents.


Cause:

In Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the pop-up blocker and the blocked automatic downloads are two different things. The automatic downloads blocking will sometimes prevent MS Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) from opening (whether or not they are in a new window).


Solution:

If you have Windows XP SP 2 installed on your computer, take the following steps to allow Web sites to automatically prompt when downloading files and software:

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options

On the Security tab, click Custom Level

To turn off the Information Bar for file downloads, in the Downloads section of the list, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable
