LEO: How Do I - Create a Numeric Grade Item (Faculty)

 


Navigation Bar View 

Step 1: Click MyTools on the navigation bar and then click Grades on the drop-down menu.  
       




Step 2: Click the Manage Grades tab and then click Item from the New drop-down menu.

Step 3: Select Numeric.

Step 4: Enter a Name for the grade item.

Step 5: Enter a Short Name to display in the gradebook.

Step 6: To associate the grade item with a category, select a category from the Category drop-down list or click New Category to create a new category. 




Step 7: Enter a Description of the grade item.

Step 8: To make the description available to students, select Allow users to view grade item description.

Step 9: Enter a grade value in the Max Points field.

Step 10: If you want to allow student grades to exceed the total value of the item, select Can Exceed.

Step 11: Select Bonus if you want the item to be counted as a bonus item.

NOTE
: Bonus items are not counted towards the maximum points for a category or final grade. You must select the Can Exceed and Bonus check boxes to allow students' grades to exceed the maximum points specified.

Step 12: If you are using the points system, you may also choose the Exclude from Final Grade Calculation option, if applicable.
If you are using the weighted system you can accomplish the same results by setting the weight to 0%.

Step 13: Select a Grade Scheme to associate with the item, if applicable.

Step 14: Click Add Rubric to add an existing rubric, or click the Create Rubric in New Window link to create a new rubric.

Step 15: Click Save and Close.

Widget View
 

This feature is available to Program Chairs only.

Step 1: Select the Admin Tools link from the top of the Course Home Page.

Step 2: Select the Course Admin link.

Step 3: Select Grades under Assessment.

Step 4: Click the Manage Grades tab and then click Item from the New drop-down menu button.

Step 5: Select Numeric.

Step 6: Enter a Name for the grade item.

Step 7: Enter a Short Name to display in the gradebook.

Step 8: To associate the grade item with a category, select a category from the Category drop-down list or click New Category. Categories can be created by the instructor.
