LEO: How Do I - Create a Holistic Rubric

  1. From the Course Home page, click Course Admin
  2. On the Course Administration page, under Assessment, click Rubrics.
  3. Click New Rubric
  4. Under the Properties tab, enter the rubric Name (required) and Description (optional).
  5. Under Rubric Status, select one of the following:
    • Draft: Not yet available for new associations.
    • Published: Associations can be made. Once a rubric has an association, you cannot change the rubrics name, description levels, and criteria. 
    • Archived: Archived rubrics do not appear in default search results and are not available for new associations. 
  6. Select Holistic from the Rubric Type drop down menu. 
  7. Select how many achievement levels you want the rubric to have in the Initial # of Levels field.
  8. Under Scoring Method, select one of the following:
    • Text Only: Performance levels indicated by Test Only, i.e. "Poor", "Good", and "Excellent".
    • Percentages: Can be automatically assessed based on the score of its associated item, i.e. a Grade item.
  9. If applicable, under Hide Scores, select the check box next to Hide scores from student views
  10. To associate a rubric with Competencies, click Expand advanced availability options and select the check box next to Competencies. Note: You can associate a rubric with a tool such as Competencies or ePortfolio as a means of assessing items created in those tools. When you create an association for a rubric, you cannot edit or delete the rubric. To make changes after associating it with a tool, you should change the rubric's status to "Archived" then copy the rubric and make your changes to the new copy.
  11. Click Save.
