LEO: How Do I - Create Discussion Topics (Faculty)

  1. From the Course Home page, click DiscussionsNote: You may be required to click the My Tools drop down menu to select Discussions
  2. Click the New drop down menu and select New Topic
  3. Click the Forum* drop down menu to select the Forum to associate the topic with. Click the New Forum link to create a new discussion forum for the topic. 
  4. Under Topic Type, select one of the following:
    • Open topic, everyone can access this topic and its contents.
    • Group or section topic, everyone can access this topic but students only see threads from their own group or section.
  5. Enter the topic Title and Description
  6. If applicable, select one or more of the following Options:
    1. Allow anonymous posts
    2. A moderator must approve individual posts before they display in the topic
    3. Users must start a thread before they can read and reply to other threads
  7. Under Rate Posts select one of the following:
    • No Ratings: Hides all rating controls from users.
    • Five-State Rating Scheme: Allows users to assign each post a score out of five.
    • Up Vote/Down Vote Rating Scheme: Allows users to increase or decrease a post's ratings.
    • Up Vote Only Rating Scheme: Allows users to increase a post's rating.
  8. Fill in the Availability and Locking Options.
  9. Click Save and CloseSave and New, or Save.
