Parent PLUS Loans: Applying for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan

A Parent PLUS Loan enables a parent to borrow for his/her dependent child.

Note: Origination fees for Direct Loans will increase for the 2013 - 2014 academic year. Direct PLUS Loans (Parents and Graduates) disbursed on or after December 1, 2013 will have an origination fee of 4.228%.

1) The dependent student must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA form).

2) Parents must then apply for the Federal Direct Parent Plus Loan through StudentLoans.gov. Parents will also need to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) using their FSA ID (not their child's).

** Effective May 10, 2015, the FSA ID replaced the US Department of Education-issued PIN. If you don't have a FSA ID, you can click here to request one.
