Direct PLUS Loans: Postpone Payments on a Direct PLUS Loan during the Grace Period - Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans

Topic: Postpone Payments on a Direct PLUS Loan during the Grace Period - (Direct Subsidized/ Unsubsidized Loans)

Important:
Please see the addendum at the bottom of this article regarding the closing of the Direct Loan Servicing Center.

If you are unable to make payments on your Direct PLUS Loan after you leave school and your in-school deferment ends, you may request a forbearance
that will allow you to temporarily postpone payments.

To request forbearance, you must contact your federal loan service provider and explain why you are unable to make your current payments.

Addendum: Starting October 1, 2013, the Direct Loan Servicing Center will no longer service loans. The US Department of Education has transferred student's loans to other federal loan service providers.

Borrowers who need to locate and contact their new federal loan service provider can do so directly by selecting the following "link:"
