Full Text Articles
Have you ever wanted the full text of an article but have only been able to find a citation? Find it can help! Find it provides links from a citation in a database to the full text of that article, where available, and to other helpful resources and services. It's a quick way to find out whether UMUC's Information and Library Services has the online full text of an article.
Find it buttons
like this
appear
in many (but not all) of UMUC's Information and Library Services' databases.
When you do a search in a database that uses find it,
the button will appear in the records you find. Click on find it to
get a menu with links to full text and other resources.
Off campus users may be prompted to log in with a last name and barcode number.
Why isn't there a full text link for my article?
When the full text link is absent, it means either that UMUC's Information and Library Services does not subscribe to the full text version or that find it can't link to the full text yet. You can use the Get This Article link on the find it menu to request a copy through DocumentExpress. You may also check the catalogUSMAI link to see if the journal is available in print form at one of the University System of Maryland Libraries. If you see an Internet link for a journal in the catalog and are not able to access the journal, ILS may still subscribe to it. Please contact us for assistance.
Why are there multiple links for full text?
Sometimes, UMUC's Information and Library Services gets full text for a journal from several databases, so we link to all of them. That way, if one of the databases happens to be down, you can access the full text from another.
When I click on the link to full text, the article isn't there. What happened?
A full text link might not work because:
Please report any problems you encounter by filling out the database problem report form.
When I click on find it, nothing happens, or I get an error message. What happened?
The find it button starts new window. It might not work because:
Alternative: Try holding down the SHIFT key while clicking on the find it link you are having trouble with. This may allow the link to open in a new window.
Please report any problems you encounter by filling out the database problem report form.
I see a message that links may not work from off-campus. Can I use find it from home?
When you connect to the library databases, most find it links will be working. In some cases, you may be asked to enter your last name and barcode number when you use the find it menu.
Sometimes when I click on a full text link, I end up on the journal's home page or the table of contents. Why don't I link directly to the article?
Find it will get you as close as possible to the article you want. Sometimes, the e-journal won't let you link to a specific article, so find it drops you off at the table of contents or the home page of the journal. You can then navigate the journal's page to get to the article you want.
Sometimes when I click on find it, I go to the article's citation rather than the find it menu. How do I get to the find it menu and the full text of my article?
Click the find it button that appears on the citation page to view the find it menu and link to the full text if it is available. For databases provided by ProQuest, which includes ABI Inform, ProQuest Computing, National Newspapers, and the Wall Street Journal, you must first view the citation page in order to link to the find it menu. This may be changed by ProQuest in the future so that you can proceed directly to the find it menu.
