Adelphi has wireless access!
UMUC library users who have installed a wireless network interface card on their laptop computer or PDA can access the library's wireless network access point in SFSC room 2255. You need a card that is compliant with the IEEE 802.11b standard. Setup procedures will vary depending on the manufacturer of your wireless card and the operating system you use. This guide provides the network settings for the UMUC Library connection only.
Once connected, you will have access to the Internet only. The Library's wireless network is the same as those in other areas of the SFSC and ICC (other hotspots are currently located in front of Starbucks, in front of the Information Desk, and in all public areas of the ICC), so you can roam between them without reconfiguring your network settings.
Step 1. Make sure your wireless card is working.
Check the documentation that came with your wireless network interface card to determine how to verify that your card is installed properly.
Step 2. Set your wireless card's properties to match those of the Wireless Access Point.
2.a. Indicate the type of network you will use. Select Access Point or Infrastructure mode for Network Type.
2.b. Type UMUC-HOTSPOT for the Network Name or SSID. It is case sensitive in most instances. Some network interface cards allow you to "Scan" for wireless access points and select from a list of access points to which you can connect.
2.c. Wireless cards drain batteries very quickly. If you wish to have longer battery life, then you should enable your computer's power management option.
Step 3. Test your wireless connection.
Open your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and try the UMUC library Web pages (http://www.umuc.edu/library). If the pages don't load, check to see that your wireless card is working properly. See the documentation that came with your wireless network interface card to determine how to verify that your card is installed properly.
