What is Instant Messaging?
Instant Messaging (IM) is a means of using either software or a Web page to converse in real time with another person.
How does it work?
If you are using Instant Messaging software:
To contact the UMUC Instant Message reference service via an IM software client, send a message from your IM software to one of our screen names: umuclibrary (AIM & Yahoo Messenger) or library@umuc.edu (MSN Messenger). If you already have an IM account, simply add us to your buddy list and then open a chat with us.
If you are using Web based Instant Messaging:All of the services listed above also have Web based versions of their instant messaging software. You can use these Web based versions to access your instant messaging account from any computer with access to the Internet without the need to download and install the software.
