What is Instant Messaging?

Instant Messaging (IM) is a means of using either software or a Web page to converse in real time with another person.

How does it work?

If you are using Instant Messaging software:

To contact the UMUC Instant Message reference service via an IM software client, send a message from your IM software to one of our screen names: umuclibrary (AIM & Yahoo Messenger) or library@umuc.edu (MSN Messenger). If you already have an IM account, simply add us to your buddy list and then open a chat with us.
