Where can I find A.P.A. or M.L.A. format guidelines?

You can find citation formats for APA and MLA styles through our Citation Resources page.

There you will find guides to citing in APA and MLA formats, tutorials on APA and MLA citation style, and a link to UMUC's VAIL (Virtual Academic Integrity Laboratory) guide to citation with samples for many types of publications.

The APA and MLA manuals cover much more than citation. The manuals are not available full text online in their entirety. Check the library catalog for their availablity.

Where can I find the full text of a particular article or journal online?

(1) Using find it
As you search some of the databases, you may encounter a find it (or SFX) button for articles that are not full text in a particular database. When you click on the find it (or SFX) button, you may find a link to the database where the article is available in full text. If the article is not available in full text in our databases, you will be directed to ask for it through DocumentExpress. For more information about find it (or SFX), see the Find It Frequently Asked Questions.

(2) Using the Journal Finder
You can search the Journal Finder to find the database where a journal is available in full text. Enter the journal title and as much information as you know about the journal for which you are looking and click the find it (or SFX) button. A new window will open with your options. If the full text is available in a database, you can click on the link for the database name. If the full text is not available, you can search the catalog for the location of a print copy or request the article through DocumentExpress.

Please note the Journal Finder only searches find it enabled databases. For more information about find it, see the Find It Frequently Asked Questions.

How do I find out if a book I requested through the library catalog is availalble for me to pick-up?

You can check the status of the books you requested through the library catalog by doing the following:

  • Go to the library catalog.
  • Click on the "Sign In" link above the yellow menu bar.
  • Log into the library catalog with your 14 digit barcode on the back of your ID card and your last name.
  • Once logged into the library catalog, click on "my account" above the yellow menu bar.
  • Click on "Requests" to see the status of your holds. The status saying "On Hold Until: Month-Day-Year" means that the book has arrived at the pick-up location you selected. The status saying, "In process" or "Waiting in position 1" means that the item has not yet reached the pick-up location.
