How Do I Find and Get Books?

If you are a currently registered UMUC student you can:

You must have your UMUC ID card and a photo ID to check out books at the above locations.

If you cannot locate the book(s) you need in the USM library catalog, you may want to check local academic or public libraries through:

  • Sailor: Maryland's public online information network for library resources in Maryland.
  • WorldCat: A library database that lists books, journals and other materials owned by libraries around the world. (Also available through the library databases page.)
You can also submit an interlibrary loan (ILL) request through:
  • the Information and Library Services Web-based DocumentExpress
  • an electronic WorldCat request
  • a local public library

NOTE: ILL book(s) ordered through DocumentExpress must be picked up at Information and Library Services in Adelphi.

How Do I Find and Get Journal Articles?

Find Articles is a guide to finding articles in the library databases

With a current UMUC ID card and your 14-digit barcode number, you can access the library databases from work, home, or through UMUC's computer labs, including Dorsey Station's computer lab.

If an article you need is not available through the library databases, you can submit an interlibrary loan (ILL) request through:

  • an electronic request through the library databases (Look for the find it buttons.)
  • the Information and Library Services Web-based DocumentExpress
  • a local public library  

You may check for print copies of journals owned at USM libraries through the library catalog. You may also check for print copies held by local academic or public libraries through:

  • Sailor: Maryland 's public online information network for library resources in Maryland.
  • WorldCat: A library database that lists books, journals and other materials owned by libraries around the world. (Also available through the library databases page.)
