Dorsey Station Print Reserves

What are print reserves at Dorsey Station?
Faculty who teach face-to-face or hybrid classes at Dorsey Station may place physical items on reserve at Dorsey Station. Students will be able to access these materials during the Dorsey Station library hours.

What types of materials can I place on reserve?
Faculty can place books, maps, blueprints and any other material that cannot easily be converted to a digital format. Materials may be owned by the UMUC library, Dorsey Station library, or by the faculty member. USMAI materials and Interlibrary loan materials are not eligible for reserve. (To place articles on e-reserve, please use our Electronic Reserves service.)

How do I place items on reserve?
To place items on reserve, faculty may use the online Dorsey Print Reserves Request form, or they may fill out a form at the Dorsey Station library. Faculty-owned materials must be submitted in person. Please submit all requests at least four weeks prior to when they will be used to allow library staff time to obtain and process the materials.

What happens if the library does not have the materials that I want?
If the library does not have the materials needed for the course, faculty may submit personal copies to be placed on reserve. In some cases, the library may purchase the materials if it is within the scope of our collection. The library does not guarantee that materials will be purchased. For more information, please contact the Regional Services Librarian at dorseylibrary@umuc.edu or 443-459-3515.

How long is the loan period?
The loan period for reserve materials is two hours or overnight, at the discretion of the faculty member.

How do I get my materials after the end of the semester?
Faculty have one month after the semester ends either to retrieve their items in person at the Dorsey Station Library or place the items on reserve again for the next semester. Items not picked up within one month will be disposed of.
