Online Chat Service
- Information and Library Services (ILS) is piloting a new service
in Spring 2001 using Live Assistance software for online reference.
During this pilot phase, librarians will be available to chat
with UMUC patrons 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday,
simply by logging in at https://www.umuc.edu/library/help/chat.html.
Please help us evaluate the chat service by e-mailing library@umuc.edu
or filling out the survey, available soon, after a chat session
is finished. Hours will be expanded depending on usage and feedback.

- You may now have a digital copy delivered to your desktop! Using
Prospero, patrons can access documents requested
via Interlibrary Loan by downloading the requested documents from
a web server. Call 301-985-7209 for details.
Online Databases
EIU Viewswire
- EIU Viewswire, from the Economist Intelligence
Unit (EIU), provides daily business information from countries
around the world. EIU economists supply daily analysis on the
politics, economy, financial situations, and businesses, industries,
and regulations of 195 countries. The information available
in EIU Viewswire includes full text articles,
statistics, forecasts, latest indicators, corporate strategies,
and tax and trade regulations.
- From within EIU Viewswire, users have the
option to create a profile. With the profile users can choose
to be notified via e-mail when information on particular countries,
industries, economic statistics, or other news is updated.
netLibrary E-book Collection Growing
- netLibrary e-books are electronic versions of print
publications. All UMUC students, faculty, and staff have access
to over 3,000 books via netLibrary. ILS has recently
purchased e-books in the area of Management and we will continue
to add to the collection in the various disciplines related
to the UMUC graduate and undergraduate curricula in the coming
months
- Electronic books are indexed both in netLibrary and
in the University System of Maryland library catalog VICTORWeb.
- The collection of electronic books in netLibrary can
be searched by title, author, subject, key word, and full text.
The entire book can be viewed in full text, including table
of contents, index, and appendices, and may be downloaded to
be read offline.
For more
information about using netLibrary to access electronic books,
see the
netLibrary E-books FAQ.
