Accessing Government Documents through the Catalog

The library catalog can be used to access many government documents published by the Government Printing Office (GPO). Many such documents have been cataloged and can be accessed online in full text.

You can limit your search to electronic documents published by the Government Printing Office (GPO) with the steps below. First, use the advanced search feature.

Advanced search

At the advanced search screen, go to the line marked format. Use the pull down menu to display the various format options available to you, and select Electronic Resources (online).

Format options

The screen shot below shows that you have selected advanced search and electronic resources (online). Now just enter your search terms such as electronic commerce.

To limit your search to government documents, enter the search term gpo (for Government Printing Office) in the second search box.

Sample search for government documents

The screen below shows the search results. You can see the number of results retrieved from your search (19 records). The display is set to show records in groups of 10 if you get more than 10 hits.
