Whenever you use research in a paper, project, or presentation, you must document your sources. One of the frequently used citation styles, particularly in the humanities disciplines, is that of the Modern Language Association (MLA). Before beginning the tutorial, test your MLA IQ by selecting the correct answer to the following questions. You will get instant feedback. Don't worry if you don't get them right the first time. You will learn the answers in the rest of the tutorial. If you get some wrong, I suggest you finish the tutorial and then come back to the pretest and take it again to see what you have learned. 1. In MLA citation style the Works Cited page includes

a. all the works you consulted in your research

b. a list of works you compiled from bibliographies on your topic
c. just those works you cite in your paper
d. only the primary sources you used in your paper


2. When you cite a print source within the text of your paper, you should include the following information:

a. the author's complete name, the title of the work, and the page number(s)
b. the author's last name, the publication date, and the page number(s)
c. the author's last name and the page number(s) separated by a comma
d. the author's last name and the page number(s)


3. In the Works Cited entry for a scholarly journal with continuous pagination, you should include the following information for the publication date:

a. the complete date, i.e., month and year or month, day, and year
b. the volume number and the year in parentheses
c. the volume number, the issue number, and the year in parentheses
d. the year of publication


4. In the Works Cited entry for an article you retrieve from a library database, the complete entry should include:

a. the name of the database, the name of the library, the date of access, and the URL of the library database access page
b. the name of the database, the URL of the database vendor's home page, and the date of access
c. the words "available from" followed by the name of the database, the URL of the database vendor's home page, and the date of access
d. you don't need to include any information about the electronic resource
