Exercise: Create a citation
Next

Now it's your turn to try to create a citation. The first screen shows a citation found in the library database, Business Source Premier, on May 3, 2003. The important elements you will need for the citation have been circled. As mentioned earlier, the library information and the URL will be: UMUC's Information and Library Services, http://www.umuc.edu/library/database.

Follow the directions to enter the correct data in each box below and then click on "go" to check your answer. Remember to enter all punctuation including periods at the end of the component. When you are done or if you're puzzled about what to enter, click on final citation for the correct citation.

Note: You won't be able to underline or italicize the title in this exercise, but in the final citation the journal title should be underlined or italicized.

After you have entered the article information as you would for a print source, enter the electronic retrieval information since this article is from a library database. Make sure you insert periods at the end of each entry, if necessary.

First, the database name:

Next, the vendor's name:

Note: The vendor here is EBSCOHOST.

Then, the sponsoring library:

Note: the sponsoring library is UMUC's Information and Library Services.

Now, the date you accessed the article:

Finally, the URL for the Information and Library Services database access page:

Note: Don't forget the < and > around the URL and the period at the end.

See the final citation.
