Before creating an entry for a work on the works-cited page of
your paper, you need to analyze what type of resource you are using.
Then, you can consult the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research
Papers to find the correct format for that type of resource.
Since the Handbook gives examples for just about any resource
that you may find, it is an excellent resource for you to own.
The examples that follow illustrate the main types of resources
you are likely to use in your paper. They will all be from electronic
sources. If you have a similar type of print source, such as a book
or an article you received from interlibrary loan or a library,
you would format it in the same way as the first part of these sample
entries and omit the electronic database or Web information.
If you obtain articles from UMUC's library databases, you will
notice the library information in the citation is the same for all
the articles you find in them: UMUC's Information and Library Services.
