Information Resources Management College (IRMC) - Chief Information Security Officer Certificate

Graduate Credits

Programs Available: UMUC will grant to IRMC students who have successfully completed the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Certificate program with IRMC will earn graduate credit.  Please be aware that this is not a partnership between UMUC and IRMC regarding the CISO Certificate program.

Transfer Credit Allowed: For IRMC students who have successfully completed the CISO Certificate program with IRMC, UMUC agrees to accept as a transfer credit the equivalent of 12 credits.  Students who graduate from the IRMC CISO Certificate program will receive the following credits:

  • INFA 610 - Computer Security, Software Assurance, and Hardware Assurance
  • INFA 620 - Network and Internet Security
  • INFA 660 - Security Policy, Ethics, and the Legal Environment

The transferred credits will be accepted only as a block equivalent to the 12 credits, and are awarded to IRMC students who have successfully met all the graduation requirements and have been awarded a diploma and/or certificate. UMUC shall not accept the transfer of partial credit for any particular program under this agreement. 

As part of the admissions process at UMUC, students must submit their official transcripts from IRMC and fill out the Transfer Credit Evaluation Request form.


Note, UMUC students who have successfully completed the CISO Certificate program with IRMC and are following the partnership before the Fall 2007 semester can follow the original course plan. 

Since 12 credits exceed the normal credit transfer limits accepted by UMUC, no other additional credits from other graduate schools for participants under this agreement will be allowed or accepted for those who transfer in these credits.


All requirements established for the completion of a degree program must be fulfilled within seven (7) consecutive years, beginning at the date the first course is completed at either UMUC or IRMC.

Participants' Obligations:

All students coming into any UMUC graduate program must take USCP 611, a noncredit Library Course with a $75 fee, within first six credit hours.

IRMC students or graduates must apply and meet the applicable UMUC admission criteria in effect at the time of application.

Admission of IRMC students shall be:

  1. In accordance with UMUC's current admission policies and procedures applicable to any student seeking graduate admission to UMUC
  2. In accordance with applicable law. (Regionally accredited baccalaureate degree with 3.5 GPA for unconditional admission).

For the purpose of evaluating applicants for admission and assessing overall grade point average of IRMC students upon graduation, IRMC grades will be evaluated by UMUC under the following guidelines:


NDU A (above average) = UMUC A (4.0)
NDU M (meets standard) = UMUC B (3.0)
NDU B (below standard) = UMUC C (2.0)


Program participants are responsible for tuition and fees. Active-duty military IRMC students are eligible for Maryland in-state graduate tuition at the current prevailing rates. Civilian IRMC students will pay the in-state or out-of-state graduate tuition rates depending on their residency status, at the prevailing rate.

Program Information
A "full load" is 2 courses in fall and spring and 1 course in the abbreviated summer semester.

All courses are offered both at the Adelphi location and online. Selected courses are also offered at Shady Grove.
