DAU Program Management and Level III Certification:

UMUC's Master of Science in Management and Master of Science in Technology Management with a specialization in Project Management

Eligibility

To receive the 9 graduate credits for the MSM or TMAN degree the student must have been awarded Program Management Level III Certification by DAU.  The individual must have successfully completed courses required for Level III Certification, with a grade no less than Pass, at DAU.

Program Matrix for Master of Science in Management

Students who meet Program Level III Certification for DOD Acquisition and choose the "Project Management" specialization in the Master of Science in Management degree program must complete the following requirements:
Core MGMT Courses (15 credits)

  • MGMT 610 The Manager in a Technological Society
  • MGMT 615 Intercultural Communications & Leadership
  • MGMT 640 Financial Decision Making for Managers  
  • MGMT 650 Research Methods for Managers
  • MGMT 670 Strategic Management Capstone

Core Rules

  1. Students must complete 24 credits, including other core requirements, before enrolling in MGMT 670.
  2. MGMT 640 and MGMT 650 should not be completed simultaneously.

Specialization Courses (21 credits) - Students must take the following seven courses:

  • PCMS 627 Legal Aspects of Contracting (formerly PMAN 636 and ADMN 627) **
  • PMAN 634 Program and Project Management** 
  • PMAN 637 Risk Management: Tools and Techniques 
  • PMAN 638 Communication, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution**
  • PMAN 639 Project Knowledge Management
  • PMAN 650 Financial Management of Projects
  • PMAN 670 Advanced Project Methods (Capstone Course)

*Students can choose to take the following 6-credit seminar instead of taking PMAN 634 and PMAN 670

  • PMAN 600 Project Management Foundations and Advanced Methods

*Credit given to DAU Program Management students with Level III Certification.  Students will receive credit by providing DAU transcript and Letter of Certification

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Dual Degree Program:
In accordance with UMUC applicable policies, procedures and requirements, DAU students have the option of pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree after completing the requirements for the MSM. DAU students wishing to pursue this option should confer with a UMUC academic advisor at the earliest opportunity since the 7-year rule also includes these courses.  Students may earn the MBA by completing the following additional coursework:

  • DMBA 603 The Marketing of New Ideas (6)
  • DMBA 604 Technology and Operations Management (6)
  • DMBA 606 Organizations and the External Environment (6)

Administrative Information: 

  • Students must meet standard UMUC admission requirements.

  • Students must apply for admission. On the admissions application student should indicate they are applying for the Master of Science in Management with a specialization in Project Management (MSMPMAN-MS) or Master of Science in Technology Management with a specialization in Project Management (TMANPM-MS).  

  • Upon completion of the Program Management Level III Certification program, students must send a request and an official transcript to have the credits posted to the UMUC transcript. The form is located at http://www.umuc.edu/grad/
    transferform.html.

  • Along with the Official Transcripts from DAU, student must fill out and submit the Transfer Credit Evaluation Request Form located on our Web site at http://www.umuc.edu/grad/transferform.html.

  • Since 9 credits exceed the normal credit transfer limits accepted by UMUC, no other additional credits may be transferred into the program.

  • All requirements established for the completion of the program must be fulfilled within seven consecutive years and include the track seminar or correspondence courses taken with DAU. This requirement cannot be waived.

  • UMUC will not accept the transfer of partial credit, i.e. less than 9 credits for this program.

  • If a DAU student is active duty military, they are eligible for Maryland in-state graduate tuition at the prevailing rates for the MSM. The rate for the MBA program will be the prevailing tuition as published in the fee schedule.
