Our Students Are Our Story
Your learning experience will be enriched by the diverse group of highly motivated military and civilian students who choose UMUC.
Most University of Maryland University College students are busy professionals looking to improve their opportunities for career advancement or make a career change. They include our military spouses who want to position themselves for successful, portable careers without having to worry about military moves throwing their education off course.
Many of our military-affiliated students attend school part-time to help balance their educational goals with their other commitments, including their careers and families.
Military spouses at UMUC come to us from every branch of the military, and many transfer in credits.
Student Perspectives on the Military and UMUC
Here’s what our students and alumni are saying about why UMUC was the right choice for them.
"I am a veteran caregiver, and my online classes at UMUC give me a flexible schedule. If [my husband] was on active duty and we needed to move, my computer is the classroom, so I can take it with me wherever we go."
"UMUC provides the opportunity a lot of times for students to apply their knowledge to a real-life scenario. … I think that's very effective."
"UMUC was willing to take all of my previous credits, and with the flexibility that UMUC offered, I was able to knock out my undergrad degree and went on and finished my master’s … and had all that lined up before I went and retired from the military."
"The education was tremendous. It provided fantastic opportunities for those of us that were prepared to take advantage of it. UMUC provided the opportunity. We had to move out and do something about it."
