Experiential learning through an internship or fellowship can be an important aspect of your education journey. These represent great opportunities to apply the concepts that you learn in the classroom to real-world situations. In addition, internships and fellowships offer the opportunity to begin building professional experience in your chosen field, a very valuable asset for your job search after graduation.

Military-affiliated UMUC students can apply for the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program.

Available in Maryland and Washington, D.C., this fellowship program pairs recently separated veterans and military spouses with an organization based on their skills, experience, and education. The program offers qualified individuals hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn corporate culture, gain new skills, and network within that industry. The fellowship lasts six weeks, and pays $15 per hour for 32 hours a week. If the fellow performs well, the expectation is for the host company to hire them or interview them for future forecasted positions.

The Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program has worked with a number of companies, including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, MGM Resorts International, Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Amazon, and more.

Students in the program are also welcome to work with companies that Hiring Our Heroes may not have previously worked with. In fact, students are encouraged to find an organization where their skills and experience will be valued.
