Diffusing Organizational Tensions
Workshop Overview
Conflict within organizations is prevalent even in the best of times. When individuals and work teams are stressed by the added demands of difficult economic or budgetary challenges, organizational tensions are even more likely to erupt. These tensions are usually brought about by differences in perspectives, values, interests or styles. This workshop will focus on how individuals and work groups respond to these differences. Participants will engage in the Conflict Development Profile (CDP), an assessment of their individual conflict behaviors and how these behaviors are demonstrated within and across groups. Through group exercises, participants will begin to practice new, more constructive conflict-response behaviors and leave the workshop ready to apply these new approaches to their work situations.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the dynamics of conflict and its organizational consequences
- Identify constructive and destructive responses to a conflict situation
- Practice constructive conflict resolution individually and in teams
- Create an action plan for improving their conflict behavior

Through individual assessments and group activities, participants will learn tools and techniques to improve their effectiveness in this key leadership competency.
