SUBJECT:  Policy 210.19 - Registration

  1. Registration
    1. UMUC conforms to the Board of Regents Policy III-2.30 Policy on Eligibility to Register, approved on February 22, 1990.
    2. UMUC-Adelphi students are encouraged to consult Undergraduate Student Affairs resource teams for undergraduate information before registering and Graduate Student Affairs for graduate information before registering. UMUC-Adelphi students may register for courses by walk-in, mail, the Interactive Registration and Information System (IRIS) touch-tone phone registration, fax, or online via the Interactive Students Information System (ISIS). Registration forms are available in the Schedule of Classes and at http://www.umuc.edu/. Beginning with the first day of late registration at UMUC-Adelphi, a $30 late registration fee will be charged.
    3. UMUC-Europe and UMUC-Asia students are encouraged to consult their Student Affairs offices before registering. UMUC-Europe students may register by walk-in; they may register for courses with a registration form. UMUC-Asian students may register by walk-in; they may register for courses with an enrollment form.
    4. Schwäbisch Gmünd students are encouraged meet with their academic advisor in person to schedule the selection of courses for the upcoming semester.
    5. Students currently admitted to a UMUC site (known as the “home” site), who wish to register for courses that originate from another UMUC site, are required to obtain permission to register each semester. Permission is authorized by the Registrar of their home site, who will facilitate the registration process. For example, a Schwäbisch Gmünd student who wishes to take an online course that originates from UMUC-Adelphi must contact the Schwäbisch Gmünd Registrar to facilitate the process.
    6. Students may not register for courses in which scheduled meeting times overlap in full or in part.
    7. Students may not attend courses for which they have not registered.
  2. Changes in Registration
    1. The student is responsible to initiate all changes of registration. Faculty members do not have the authority or responsibility to increase seat count, or initiate or accept changes in registration or withdrawals. UMUC-Adelphi students may initiate changes in person, by mail, through IRIS touch-tone phone registration, or through ISIS web registration. UMUC-Europe and UMUC-Asia students should contact the Student Affairs office. Schwäbisch Gmünd students should meet with their academic advisor to initiate any changes.
    2. Deadlines and procedures for registration changes are published each semester and on the UMUC Web sites. Exceptions to the published registration changes for UMUC-Adelphi, UMUC-Europe, and UMUC-Asia must be processed through the respective Student Affairs office. Exceptions to the published Schwäbisch Gmünd registration changes must be processed through the Schwäbisch Gmünd Office of the Registrar.
  3. Withdrawal from One or More Courses

    Students wishing to withdraw from one or more courses shall follow the procedures published in policy 170.71 - Policy on Grade of Incomplete and Withdrawal.

  4. Placement Tests

    The student is responsible for arranging any necessary placement tests in a timely manner. Information is available on UMUC web sites and in UMUC catalogs and Schedules of Classes. UMUC-Adelphi undergraduate students may arrange placement exams with the Faculty and Distance Education Services office. UMUC-Europe students may arrange placement exams at their local Education Center. UMUC-Asia students may arrange placement exams at local Field Representative Offices. Schwäbisch Gmünd students are advised to consult with their academic advisors on arranging placement exams.
