SUBJECT: Golden Identification Card Program I. Introduction In accordance with University System of Maryland (USM) Policy VIII-2.30 on Waiver of Tuition and Granting of Other Privileges for Senior Citizens of the State of Maryland, approved by the Board of Regents on November 30, 1989, University of Maryland University College has adopted the following procedures under the Golden Identification Card Program. The Golden Identification Card Program is open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are 60 years old or older who are residents of the State of Maryland and are retired. "Retired" is defined as "not working more than 20 hours a week." Normally, to qualify for the program, the chief income of the individual must be derived from retirement benefits. II. Enrollment
III. Procedures Golden Identification Card Students must apply for admission and meet all requirements. The first time that they register at UMUC, students must sign a form that asks the students for their current work hours per week and states that it is the student’s responsibility to notify UMUC of any changes. The University System of Maryland Policy requires that the FTE enrollment of students in this program at UMUC shall not exceed two percent of the UMUC FTE undergraduate enrollment. To assure compliance with the limitation, if participation in the program during any year grows to a level of 1.8 percent of the undergraduate enrollment, procedures will be established to limit registration the following year on a first-come-first-served basis.
