I. Introduction
-
UMUC conforms to the Board of Regents Policy V-1.00 Policy on Student
Affairs, approved on January 11, 1990.
-
Students' rights of participation in
UMUC activities and programs shall be in conformity with all pertinent
federal and state laws on nondiscrimination.
-
UMUC provides access for all
students to student handbooks or other appropriate referral materials with
summaries of pertinent policies, rules, and regulations.
- UMUC has established
Policy 151.00 Code of Student Conduct
to process allegations of prohibited conduct and Policy
130.70 Student Grievance Procedures
to process student grievances.
II. Services to Student

UMUC provides academic advising (see Policy
120.10 Academic Advising) and other services to meet the diverse needs of its student body. These other services include:

Career and Cooperative Education Services
-
All UMUC students may obtain information regarding career and
employment resources on UMUC Web site pages.

For students whose courses originate
from UMUC-Adelphi, information on the career and cooperative
education services can be obtained from Undergraduate
Student Affairs resource teams, Graduate Student Affairs, and
the UMUC Career and Cooperative Education Center.

Tutoring Services
-
All UMUC students may obtain information regarding online effective
writing services at www.umuc.edu.

Information for UMUC-Adelphi students
on tutoring services can be obtained from Undergraduate Student
Affairs resource teams and the Director
of the Effective Writing Program.
c. UMUC-Europe and UMUC-Asia students are encouraged to contact Student Affairs
for more information on local support.

Veterans Services
-
In Adelphi, Maryland, the University Registrar and Vice Provost, Student Affairs, the Director for Veteran and Disabled Student Services, Undergraduate resource teams, and Graduate Student Affairs are responsible for the procedures involved in the certification of enrollments of veterans and active duty personnel and their dependents who are eligible for educational benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, under the following programs:

In Europe and Asia, the UMUC Field Representative or the Financial
Services Office in Heidelberg and Yokota are responsible for
the procedures involved in the certification of enrollments for
students eligible for the Department of Veterans Affairs programs
listed above.

At the Mannheim campus, the Offices of Financial
Aid are responsible for the procedures involved in the certification
of enrollments for students
eligible for the Department of Veterans Affairs programs listed
above.

The procedures carried out by UMUC will be in accordance
with the law (Title 38, United States Code) and regulated by
the Department of
Veterans Affairs (Title 38, Code of Federal Regulations).

Disabled Student Services
-
In Adelphi, Maryland, the Director for Veteran and Disabled
Student Services is designated to work with students requesting
accommodations based on a disability. Such students must register
and request accommodations. Students must provide documentation
from an appropriate professional that verifies the presence
and impact of the disability. The Director reviews the documentation
and determines eligibility for accommodations. Appropriate
accommodations are provided with assistance from UMUC faculty
and staff as necessary.

UMUC-Europe graduate students seeking
accommodations based on a disability should contact the Director,
Graduate Programs.

UMUC-Europe undergraduate students seeking
accommodations based on a disability should contact the Director,
Student Affairs.

UMUC-Asia students seeking accommodations
based on a disability should contact the Director, Student
Affairs.

Faculty members shall refer disabled students who
request accommodations to the designated student affairs
representative as indicated
above for each division. Faculty shall not determine
whether a student is eligible for accommodations or what
accommodations are appropriate.

Personal Counseling
-
UMUC-Adelphi students seeking help with personal-social
problems that interfere with academic progress will be referred
to professional counseling services in the community following
an initial consultation with an advisor on a resource team
or the Staff Support Team. UMUC-Adelphi students who are
members of the U.S. military are encouraged to contact the
counseling facilities, or other similar agencies, available
on their military base or in the community.

UMUC-Asia students who are members of the U.S. military
community who seek personal counseling are encouraged to
contact the
counseling facilities, or other similar agencies, available
on their military base or in the community.
