SUBJECT:  Policy 151.50 - Handling Event-Related Misconduct

  1. Introduction
  2. In accordance with the Board of Regents Policy on Event-Related Student Misconduct (Policy No. V-8.0), University of Maryland University College (“UMUC”) has adopted this Policy to require strong disciplinary sanctions against students who participate in event-related misconduct.

  3. Definitions

    1. “Event-related misconduct” is rioting, assault, theft, vandalism, fire-setting, or other misconduct related to an institution-sponsored event, occurring on- or off-campus, that results in harm to persons or property or otherwise poses a threat to the stability of the campus or campus community.

    2. “Institution-sponsored event” is any event on or off UMUC or University System of Maryland (USM) premises that is initiated, aided, authorized, or supervised by UMUC or USM..

  4. Event-Related Misconduct

    1. Allegations of event-related misconduct will be handled in accordance with the procedures in UMUC Policy 151.00 - Code of Student Conduct, Sections IV through VIII.

    2. Students found to have committed event-related misconduct may be subject to sanctions up to and including suspension and expulsion from UMUC. Any decision to impose a sanction of less than suspension or expulsion must be supported by written findings signed by the Provost and Chief Academic Officer.

    3. A student suspended for committing event-related misconduct shall not be admitted to any other institution in the USM during the term of the suspension.

    4. A student expelled for committing event-related misconduct shall not be admitted to any other institution in the USM for at least one year from the effective date of the expulsion.
