Eric Spangler
Eric Spangler serves as the Interim Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). Mr. Spangler has over 22 years of experience in the information technology field for higher education.
Since joining UMUC in 1992, Mr. Spangler has held many positions with progressive responsibility in the areas of systems analysis, technical engineering, infrastructure design/planning and computer security. He has led teams that participated in a number of critical and significant projects within UMUC, including the birth of WebTycho—UMUC's online learning management platform—and the inception of UMUC's Peoplesoft student information, human resource and financial management systems, to deliver these services to students, faculty and staff globally. Prior to his current position, Mr. Spangler was the Associate Vice President, Enterprise Infrastructure beginning in 2006 and the Deputy CIO in 2008.
Mr. Spangler has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and has completed graduate-level coursework in information systems management.
