  ADMISSION

Q: How do I participate in the CCBC–UMUC alliance?

A: Complete the CCBC admissions application if you are a new student at CCBC. There is a $15 application fee payable to CCBC for new students to CCBC. Then complete and send the CCBC–UMUC Alliance application form for admission to UMUC. There is no application fee. We recommend that you submit the alliance application after earning 30 credits, but before you receive your associate's degree.
UMUC academic requirements for admission are
  • graduation from a regionally accredited or state-approved high school or
  • a total score of at least 2250 on the General Education Development (GED) examination and no score below 410 on any of the five tests. If you completed the GED exam before January 2002, you must have scored a minimum of 40 on each of the five tests, with a total score of at least 225.
If you present at least 24 semester hours of transferable college credit, you are not required to submit official high school transcripts or GED scores.

Q: If I am admitted to CCBC, am I automatically admitted to UMUC?

A: No, you must complete the alliance application form, and meet the UMUC admission criteria at the time of your application to be admitted to UMUC.

Q: If I am admitted to UMUC through the alliance, am I also admitted to other University System of Maryland (USM) institutions?

A: No. Your admission is for UMUC only. Other USM institutions require a separate application for admission.

  DEGREE PROGRAMS

Q: Which degree programs are linked in this alliance?

A: See Linked Associate's to Bachelor's Degree Programs

Q: How many credits may I transfer to UMUC?

A: UMUC accepts up to 90 credits in transfer from all collegiate schools attended including applicable military credit. Students transferring from a Maryland community college may transfer up to 70 credit hours of applicable credit towards a bachelor's degree. Students are encouraged to complete an associate's degree at their community college and speak with a UMUC representative at their community college campus.

Q: Do I need to ask CCBC to send academic transcripts to UMUC?

A: Yes. If you are admitted to the alliance, send an official CCBC transcript to UMUC for the purpose of advising or transfer evaluation. You may choose to have transcripts sent either at the end of each semester or after you complete all of your CCBC coursework.

Q: Is there a fee to send my transcript?

A: Yes, CCBC requires a $3.00 fee per transcript.

Q: Must I complete my associate’s degree before enrolling at UMUC?

A: No. However, it may be to your advantage to complete your associate’s degree at CCBC first. CCBC graduates have found the associate’s degree useful in obtaining jobs or promotions while continuing to pursue a bachelor’s degree. If you have your associate’s degree, you may be eligible for the Maryland Community College Scholarship.

Q: Who do I see for academic advising?

A: Your CCBC academic advisor can help you select the most appropriate classes to complete your associate's degree and to transfer to UMUC. A UMUC representative is available at each CCBC campus on Tuesdays. The Dundalk campus has additional UMUC visits on Wednesdays.

Q: If I am currently enrolled at UMUC, may I take additional courses from CCBC through the alliance?

A: Whether you may take additional courses from CCBC through the Alliance will depend on the number of credits originally transferred to UMUC from a community college. Check with a UMUC advisor before deciding to return to CCBC for additional credit.

Q: Which school will be awarding my degree?

A: CCBC will award associate’s degrees and UMUC will award bachelor’s degrees.

  FINANCIAL AID

Q: If I apply for financial aid, which school issues it?

A: While you attend CCBC only, CCBC issues your financial aid. As soon as you plan to register for your first class at UMUC, you must reapply for financial aid through UMUC and have your financial aid transcripts sent from CCBC to UMUC. Please inform your financial aid office at CCBC of your plans to begin courses at UMUC. To complete the financial aid process with UMUC, please click on http://www.umuc.edu/students/fincaid.shtml

Q: Will my financial aid from UMUC pay for courses at CCBC?

A: You will need to pay your CCBC tuition costs at CCBC. However, the amount of financial aid disbursed to you through UMUC will be based on your enrollment at both schools, if you have completed a financial aid consortium agreement between UMUC and CCBC. Contact a UMUC advisor to initiate the consortium agreement.

Q: If I am an Alliance student and want to take courses at UMUC and CCBC in the same semester, what steps do I need to take to obtain a consortium agreement?

A: Contact a UMUC advisor and ask for a letter of permission to take courses at CCBC. Your advisor will also initiate a financial aid consortium agreement between UMUC and CCBC. You must supply verification of enrollment at CCBC, the completed letter of permission, and the signed consortium agreement to UMUC’s Financial Aid Office.
