| Q: | If I am admitted to PGCC, am I automatically admitted to UMUC? | |

| A: | Yes. Your information will be entered into the databases at both PGCC and UMUC. | |
| Q: | If I am admitted to UMUC through the Alliance, am I also admitted to other University System of Maryland (USM) institutions? | |
| A: | No. The dual admission applies to PGCC and UMUC only. Other USM institutions require a separate application for admission. | |

| A: | You will register through the registration system of the institution offering the course in which you are enrolling. | |
| Q: | Do I pay PGCC tuition or UMUC tuition? | |
| A: | You will pay the tuition and fees charged by the institution offering the course in which you are enrolling. | |
| Q: | If I am eligible for tuition remission as an employee of PGCC or UMUC, may I use this benefit at either institution? | |
| A: | You may use your tuition remission only at the institution at which you are employed. | |

DEGREE PROGRAMS |
||
| Q: | Which degree programs are linked in this Alliance? | |
| A: | See Linked Associate's to Bachelor's Degree Programs | |
| Q: | How many credits may I transfer to UMUC? | |
| A: | UMUC accepts up to 90 credits in transfer from all collegiate schools attended including applicable military credit. Students transferring from a Maryland community college may transfer up to 70 credit hours of applicable credit towards a bachelor's degree. Students are encouraged to complete an associate's degree at their community college and speak with a UMUC representative at their community college campus. | |
| Q: | Do I need to ask PGCC to send academic transcripts to UMUC? | |
| A: | Yes. If you are admitted to the Alliance, you are encouraged to arrange to have your electronic transcripts sent from PGCC to UMUC for the purpose of advising or transfer evaluation. You may choose to have transcripts sent either at the end of each semester or after you complete all of your PGCC coursework. | |
| Q: | Is there a fee to send my transcript? | |
| A: | No. Alliance students who request official transcripts to be sent by electronic transfer exchange are not charged a fee. | |
| Q: | Must I complete my associates degree before enrolling at UMUC? | |
| A: | No. However, it may be to your advantage to complete your associates degree at PGCC first. PGCC graduates have found the associates degree useful in obtaining jobs or promotions while continuing to pursue a bachelors degree. If you have your associate’s degree, you may be eligible for the Maryland Community College Scholarship. | |
| Q: | Who do I see for academic advising? | |
| A: | Contact the PGCC Advising Office (301-322-0150) to schedule an appointment with the on-site UMUC representative on Wednesdays or Thursdays at the Largo campus. A representative is also available on Wednesdays at the Laurel College Center. | |
| Q: | If I am currently enrolled at UMUC, may I take additional courses from PGCC through the Alliance? | |
| A: | Whether you may take additional courses from PGCC through the Alliance will depend on the number of credits originally transferred to UMUC from a community college. Check with a UMUC advisor before deciding to return to PGCC for additional credit. | |
| Q: | Which school will be awarding my degree? | |
| A: | PGCC will award associates degrees and UMUC will award bachelors degrees. | |
FINANCIAL AID |
||
| Q: | If I apply for financial aid, which school issues it? | |
| A: | While you attend PGCC only, PGCC issues your financial aid. As soon as you plan to register for your first class at UMUC, you must reapply for financial aid through UMUC and have your financial aid transcripts sent from PGCC to UMUC. Please inform your financial aid office at PGCC of your plans to begin courses at UMUC. To complete the financial aid process with UMUC, please click on http://www.umuc.edu/students/fincaid.shtml | |
| Q: | Will my financial aid from UMUC pay for courses at PGCC? | |
| A: | You will need to pay your PGCC tuition costs at PGCC. However, the amount of financial aid disbursed to you through UMUC will be based on your enrollment at both schools, if you have completed a financial aid consortium agreement between UMUC and PGCC. Contact a UMUC advisor to initiate the consortium agreement. | |
| Q: | If I am an Alliance student and want to take courses at UMUC and PGCC in the same semester, what steps do I need to take to obtain a consortium agreement? | |
| A: | Contact a UMUC advisor and ask for a letter of permission to take courses at PGCC. Your advisor will also initiate a financial aid consortium agreement between UMUC and PGCC. You must supply verification of enrollment at PGCC, the completed letter of permission, and the signed consortium agreement to UMUCs Financial Aid Office. | |
