Frequently Asked Questions about Computer-Based Exams - Students

Q: Why doesn't my CBT registration appear in MyUMUC?

A: CBT registration is not currently tied directly to MyUMUC. Even if you are registered for a CBT exam, MyUMUC will not show that registration. Please print or make a screen shot of the final screen of the CBT registration in case you do not receive a confirmation email. Either the confirmation email or a printed copy of the final screen is proof that you are registered. Please keep either of those confirmations for your own reference.

Q: How do I know if I can take my proctored final exam on a computer?

A: When you go to register for your final exams in MyUMUC there is a link next to your class that says "CBT Register." Only those classes that are available CBT have that link.

Q: What do I need to do to take my final exam on a computer?

A: You must fill out the information requested when you click on the link that says "CBT Register" in MyUMUC. If you choose an alternate site that has not previously administered CBT exams, then your proctor will receive a survey that they must fill out so the Office of Exams and Testing Services knows that they meet both the general proctor requirements and the technology requirements listed here.

A: Students have 3 hours to complete any final exam for a course offered by the School of Undergraduate Studies. Q: How will my instructor get the results of my CBT exam?

A: Once completed, your computer-based final exam is immediately available to your professor online.

Q: What if there is a technical problem while I am taking my exam?

A: Exam results are stored in real time on the server of our test delivery vendor. That means that each time you complete an answer and go to the next question, your answers are saved. You will have the option before you submit your exam to review and change any or all of your answers, but if there is any interruption to your CBT your proctor can log you back on to the computer and your exam will continue where you ended. The computer keeps track of how much time you have spent logged in taking an exam, and you will always have 3 hours to complete your exam. If there is an interruption, the timer on your exam pauses and does not continue to run until your proctor logs you back in to complete your exam.
