Q: How do I request a makeup exam?
A: You can request a makeup exam in MyUMUC. To request a makeup exam you should login to MyUMUC then click on: Student Portal > My Academics > Registration/Enrollment > Undergrad Makeup Exam Reg. You will then be asked to complete a series of steps and enter necessary information.
Q: What information should I have on hand when requesting a makeup exam?
A: If taking your exam at an alternate site, you should have your proctor’s information including name, title, mailing address, email address, and phone number. You will also be asked for your credit card information.
Q: What if I want to take the exam at UMUC’s Testing Center?
A: If you would like to take your makeup exam at UMUC’s Testing Center, you should select Adelphi when asked to select Adelphi or Alternate Site. Once you select Adelphi, you will be asked to select a time and date you would like to take your exam. Keep in mind the exam cannot be administered until approval is received by your instructor. This process may take several days. You should select a date far enough in the future that your faculty member will have time to receive and approve your request.
Q: How does my faculty member know when I have requested a makeup exam?
A: Your faculty member will receive an automatically generated email when you request a makeup exam.
Q: Should I contact my faculty member before requesting a makeup exam?
A: Although an automatic email is sent to your instructor from us after you have made your request, we recommend sending an additional email yourself to notify your faculty member of the circumstances of your request. This can help in speeding up the process for you.
Q: Is there a fee for makeup exams?
A: Yes, beginning in Spring 2007 there is a $60.00 fee for each makeup exam requested. Students are also responsible for any proctoring fees charged. If an exam is emailed to a proctor (usually only applies to overseas students), the student will be responsible for the necessary postage to mail the completed exam to their faculty member.
Q: I took a makeup exam but my credit card has not yet been billed. Should I be concerned?
A: Credit card payments must be manually processed by us before your card is billed. This usually occurs at the end of each month. Most likely your card has not yet been processed.
Q: Is my credit card charged if my request is rejected?
A: No, your credit card is only charged if your makeup exam request is approved by your instructor and Exams and Testing. Note, if you are testing at UMUC’s Testing Center, your makeup request is automatically approved by Exams and Testing when the faculty member approves the request. You will still be charged even if you fail to show up to take the exam.
Q: My faculty member rejected my request. What should I do now?
A: It is at the faculty member’s discretion to approve/reject all makeup exam requests. You may contact your faculty member to ask why the request was rejected and to clarify the reason for the request.
Q: Do I need to provide documentation when requesting a makeup exam?
A: It is at your faculty member’s discretion to request documentation before approving a makeup exam.
A: You will receive an automatic email when your faculty member approves/rejects your request. If approved by your faculty member, you will receive an additional email when your exam is approved and shipped or emailed by Exams and Testing.
Q: I think my makeup exam request is approved but I have not received an email. What should I do?
A: If you think your makeup request was approved, please login to MyUMUC enter your makeup request page and review if the request has been approved. Also contact the student support help line at 877-868-2847 for assistance so you receive emails in the future.
Q: What are considered approved reasons for requesting makeup exams?
A: Whether to grant a makeup request is solely at the discretion of your faculty member, regardless of the reason for the request.
A: The university does not consider failure to register for an exam an approved reason to request a makeup exam, but faculty members may use their discretion in granting these requests.
Q: Once my makeup request is approved how will it be sent to my proctor?
A: If your proctor is located within the continental United States, your exam will be shipped via UPS. If your proctor is overseas, your exam will be emailed directly to the proctor.
Q: How long does it take for my makeup request to be processed once approved by my faculty member?
A: We process and ship or email the exam to the student’s proctor as soon as possible once approved by the instructor (usually within 3-5 business days). During exam periods it is difficult to process makeup exam requests quickly. During these busy times processing may be delayed by a week or more. Makeup exams requested for the current semester will be processed 1-2 weeks after the last day of the regular exam session.
A: Most likely this occurred because your proctor is unacceptable to the university or your proctor information was incomplete. In these cases we will first try to contact you and ask you to find an acceptable proctor or forward additional information. If you have not responded, we then reject the makeup exam request. Examples of unacceptable proctors are family members, coworkers, and friends of the student.
Q: I requested a makeup exam for the wrong class! What should I do now?
A: Contact Exams and Testing at makeupexams@umuc.edu and we will be happy to reject the request on your behalf.
Q: Where is my makeup exam mailed once I have completed it?
A: Makeup exams are mailed directly to your faculty member once completed.
Q: I completed a makeup exam but my faculty member has not received it. What should I do?
A: Please contact your proctor and ensure the exam was mailed immediately upon completion. If they made a copy of the exam, ask them to forward the copy to your faculty member. If the exam was mailed and a period of 6-8 weeks has passed the exam is considered lost. Once an exam is considered lost, you have two options. You may choose to take the exam again or you may ask that your grade be calculated based on previous coursework. You should contact your faculty member to inform him/her of the lost exam and discuss your options
