The grade of I (Incomplete) is exceptional and is given only to students whose
completed coursework has been qualitatively satisfactory, but who have been unable to
complete all course requirements because of illness or other extenuating circumstances
beyond their control.
To be eligible for an I, students must have completed 60 percent or more of the course requirements with a grade of C or better. The student must request an I before the end of the semester or term from their faculty member. Faculty members, however, are not required to grant the request.
Students with a mark of I must arrange to fulfill course responsibilities with their faculty member in order to receive credit. For your convenience, copies of the Agreement for the Grade of Incomplete can be printed for your records. The faculty member must set a deadline within four months of the last day of the semester in which the course occurred. Marks of I are automatically converted to F after four months. The complete policy (Policy 170.71–Grade of Incomplete and Withdrawal) is available at www.umuc.edu/policy/aa17071.shtml.
