Reviewing Make-up Exam Requests

Procedure

  • Requesting make-up exams is easy and convenient with the online form. The review process is quick and faculty will be able to view all of their students' requests in a few minutes.

  • You will be automatically notified of make-up exam requests when requests are made within four months following the end of the semester. You as faculty member have the discretion to approve or deny the request for a make-up exam, and to set an appropriate deadline for completion of the missing work at any time prior to the four months beyond the end of the semester. Any request for a make-up exam past this four month period requires permission of the faculty member and the Dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies.

  • Faculty will receive an email titled New Makeup Exam Request when a student submits a make-up exam request.

  • These requests are reviewed in MyUMUC. Once you log in to MyUMUC, you will need to select Makeup Exam Requests. Please make sure that your email address remains current in MyUMUC.

  • All requests should be reviewed and approved or rejected within 72 hours. The form will guide you through the steps to complete your review. The testing center staff will notify you if you have outstanding requests pending and assist you with the new process if you have any questions.

  • Checks have been installed in the system so certain areas cannot be bypassed.

    • If you approve a make-up exam request, you will need to attach an exam to the form. The exam must be attached as a Word document so it is necessary to change the file type to All Files when you browse to attach the file. Only approved testing center staff have access to your exam.

    • The system will not let you approve a make-up exam request for a local student using the UMUC Testing Center if the seat count fills up during the time lapse between your student's request and your approval. You will be prompted to reject the request and ask the student to register again for another session.

  • Please include any exam instructions in the Comments section of the form. We encourage you to provide a "take by" date when the student must sit for the exam.

  • Note that all students are allotted three hours to complete a final exam. Faculty members can set different time requirements for all other tests or coursework.

  • Graduate faculty members must contact their program directors to arrange make-up exams through Exams and Testing Services.
