Register for Proctored Final Exams
All undergraduate students taking online courses are required to take final examinations in a proctored (supervised) setting during the posted final exam week. A proctored exam is overseen by an impartial individual known as a proctor who monitors the student while he or she takes the exam. The proctor ensures the security and integrity of the exam process.
Please follow the guidelines below to arrange for an acceptable proctor. To register for your proctored final exam(s), you will need to log in to MyUMUC, and go to the Student Portal > MyAcademics > Registration/Enrollment > Undergrad Online Exam Reg

Note: Students are expected to take all exams when scheduled. In the event of illness or extraordinary circumstances, the student must contact the faculty member and provide documentation to request an exception and approval to take a makeup exam. If the request is not approved, the exam grade will be recorded as a zero. Failure to register for a proctored exam is not an approved reason to request a makeup exam.
Note: You may be charged a fee by an individual proctor and/or alternate sites for use of their services. Please be sure to determine if there is a fee, what it is and when it must be paid. These practices vary among colleges, universities and private testing centers. Payment for proctoring services/alternate site fees are the responsibility of the student, not UMUC.

All Other Students Taking Undergraduate Online Exams
If students are unable to take their exams at local UMUC field offices, they can arrange to take their exams with an alternate proctor. An acceptable proctor is someone who speaks English, has no conflict of interest in upholding UMUC's Plagiarism and Academic Dishonesty policy and who can provide an appropriate testing environment where certifying student identification is possible.
We have revised our list of acceptable alternate sites. We hope these changes allow students to find a proctor easily and quickly.
Acceptable Proctors and Locations include:
- Testing centers at two or four-year colleges and universities
- Commercial learning/tutoring centers
- Military education offices worldwide*
- Corporate education centers*
- County/state fire training academies*
- NCOIC or OIC for military students (This applies to students overseas. All stateside military students should use local Education Offices)
If you need help finding a proctor, please view our list of Approved Alternate Sites.
*Access to these sites may be restricted. It is your responsibility to check before submitting alternate site proctor requests. Note: Your proctor must have a legitimate institutional or military e-mail address (e.g., not a "free" e-mail account such as Yahoo or Hotmail).
Unacceptable Proctors and Locations include:
- Relatives
- Friends
- Neighbors
- Co-workers
- Private residences
- Places of worship
- Other UMUC Students
- Cohabitants
- K–12 public and private schools
Other Criteria
Your proctor must have a legitimate institutional, military or private e-mail address. "Free" e-mail accounts such as Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail are unacceptable. Your alternate site will be disapproved if an unacceptable e-mail address is submitted.
You must contact your proctor before registering for your final exams. Many students find the proctor they have used in the past is no longer available to proctor exams. Any students who register for exams without confirming the availability of their proctor will be required to apply for a makeup exam, if final exam registration has closed. Makeup exams must be approved by your instructor, and they will not be shipped until after the exam period has been completed. Each make up exam request costs $60.
