All undergraduate students taking online courses are required to take final examinations in a proctored (supervised) setting during the posted final exam week. A proctored exam is overseen by an impartial individual (called a proctor) who monitors the student while he or she is taking the exam. The proctor ensures the security and integrity of the exam process.
Please follow the guidelines below to arrange for an acceptable proctor. Then register your proctor information through MyUMUC.

| Note: Students are expected to take all exams when scheduled. In the event of illness or extraordinary circumstances, the student must contact the faculty member and provide documentation to request an exception and approval to take a makeup exam. If the request is not approved, the exam grade will be recorded as a zero. Failure to register for a proctored exam is not an approved reason to request a makeup exam. | ||
If students are unable to take their exams at local UMUC field offices, they have the option of arranging to take their exams with an alternate proctor. An acceptable proctor is someone who can communicate in English, has no conflict of interest in upholding UMUC's policy related to Plagiarism and Academic Dishonesty and who can provide or is located in an appropriate testing environment where certifying student identification is possible.
We have revised our list of acceptable alternate sites for Spring 2007. We hope these changes will allow students to find a proctor easily and quickly.
Acceptable Proctors include:
If you need help finding a proctor, the National College Testing Association provides a list of locations offering proctored services.
If none of the above locations are accessible, the following individuals, pending UMUC certification and approval, can serve as proctors:
*Access to these sites may be restricted. It is your responsibility to check before submitting alternate site proctor requests. Note that your proctor must have a legitimate institutional or military email address (e.g., not a "free" email account such as Yahoo or Hotmail).
Unacceptable Proctors include:Other Criteria
Your proctor must have a legitimate institutional, military or private email address. "Free" email accounts such as Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail are unacceptable. Your alternate site will be disapproved if an unacceptable email address is submitted.
You must contact your proctor before registering for your final exams. Many students find the proctor they have used in the past is no longer available to proctor exams. Any students who register for exams without confirming the availability of their proctor will be required to apply for a makeup exam, if final exam registration has closed. Makeup exams must be approved by your instructor, and they will not be shipped until after the exam period has been completed. A fee of $60 is assessed to each make up exam request.

UMUC-Europe: http://www.ed.umuc.edu/de/index.html
UMUC-Asia: https://de.ad.umuc.edu/altexamlocation.cfm
You may be charged a fee by an individual proctor for their services. Please be sure to determine if there is a fee, what it is, and when it must be paid. These practices vary among colleges, universities, and private testing centers. Payment for proctoring services is the responsibility of the student, not UMUC.
Students must present a valid photo ID to be allowed to sit for their exams. There is a 3-hour time limit for all distance education final exams. Students taking their exams at a UMUC regional center will have 3 hours or until the end of the scheduled exam session, whichever comes first. Computers, PDA's, cell phones, and pagers are not permitted in any testing facility. Children are not allowed in any exam session and babysitting services are not provided. Students must know their 7-digit student identification number (EMPL ID). This number can be found in MyUMUC. You can print a copy of your Student ID card by logging into the Student Portal, clicking on MyInfo, MyUMUC ID Card, and MyUMUC ID Card.
If you need testing accommodations because of a disability, contact the office of Disabled and Veteran Student Affairs at vdsa@umuc.edu or the testing center at 800-888-UMUC (8682) ext. 6434 or testingcenter@umuc.edu as soon as possible.
