About the Keynote Speaker
Daniel G. Mintz is the former chief information officer (CIO) for the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). As CIO at the Department of Transportation, Mr. Mintz served as the principal advisor to the Transportation Secretary on matters involving information resources and information services management, and provided leadership in using information technology to achieve the department's goals and objectives. In this national leadership role, he was responsible for providing policy direction for the Department of Transportation's $2.8 billion annual IT expenditure.
Currently, Mr. Mintz is the chief operating officer at Powertek Corporation. Previously, he was the chief technology officer at Computer Sciences Corporation and the director of Government Compliance Programs for Sun Microsystems. At Sun, he was responsible for leading a corporate-wide group responsible for security, legal and regulatory compliance for the company's U.S. government business.
Mr. Mintz’s career spans more than 30 years and includes senior positions leading cybersecurity initiatives, product marketing efforts, software development implementation, as well as providing technical consulting, for civilian, DoD, and U.S. intelligence agencies and large corporations. He served as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in 2005, focusing on the use of technology to support improved medical delivery and the special issues of the nation's senior citizens. Mr. Mintz also served as a member of the State of Maryland Advisory Panel on Electronic Commerce, providing advice on what legislation would be necessary to enable on-line commerce in the state. Mr. Mintz specializes in cybersecurity, the Internet's impact on organizations, government management, and IT management.
