Financial Aid

University of Maryland University College is committed to helping you find ways to meet, manage, and lower your education costs. Financial aid is available to those who qualify and can cover many of your educational expenses—including tuition, fees, books, and technology costs.

Our Financial Aid Office will help you understand how financial aid works and how to apply for it.

Types of Financial Aid

Several types of financial aid are available to those who qualify:

About Federal Student Aid

Federal student financial aid, available through the U.S. Department of Education, provides loans, grants, scholarships, and work-study opportunities to help cover your college expenses. Eligibility is based on financial need and other factors, including full-time or part-time status and academic progress.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

To apply for federal student aid, you'll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA will ask you to provide information about you and your family's income and assets.

Be sure to file your FAFSA by the established priority deadlines.

  • If you plan to enroll for the fall term, apply by June 1.
  • If you plan to enroll for the spring term, apply by November 1.
  • If you plan to enroll for the summer term, apply by April 1.
  • Maryland residents should apply by March 1 to be considered for student financial aid from the state of Maryland for the academic year starting that fall.

Cost of Attendance

If you are applying for financial aid, UMUC will estimate your cost of attendance and provide you with a projection of your educational costs, including such fixed costs as tuition and fees and such variable costs as books, transportation, computers, loan fees, and personal expenses. UMUC's Financial Aid Office will also use the estimate to determine your financial need and aid eligibility.
