UMUC Undergraduate Scholarship Programs
Most of the scholarships listed below are renewable. Renewable scholarships are those that allow recipients to remain eligible for aid under the same program for more than one year. To be considered for renewal, you must reapply each year. Renewal awards are not guaranteed. You may receive one UMUC scholarship or grant award per academic year. Note: Unless otherwise indicated, UMUC undergraduate scholarships require a minimum GPA of 2.5 and completion of 15 undergraduate credits at UMUC.
Adam V. Pessagno Memorial Scholarship
- Immediate family member of a law enforcement officer who died during active duty (Survivors of "special" police and sheriff's officers, as well as spouses who remarry, are not eligible.)
- Minimum GPA of 2.75
- Preference may be given to hardship cases
AEGON USA Scholarship
- Supports the UMUC Better Opportunities Through Online Education (BOTOE) scholarship program
- Low-wage worker employed full or part time
- Defined goals and expectations
- Prior computer or technical training
- Federal financial aid eligibility
- Willingness to accept academic and/or personal support
- Personal interview at UMUC

Alpha Sigma Lambda, Tau Chapter, Scholarship
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 at UMUC
- Seeking first bachelor's degree
- Preference given to applicants with demonstrated financial need

Alumni Association-International Scholarship
- Completion of 60 credits
- Minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA at UMUC or minimum University System of Maryland institution transfer GPA of 3.5
- Enrolled full-time (12 semester hours)
- Admitted as a Maryland resident
- Documented, demonstrated leadership and community involvement
Better Opportunities Through Online Education Scholarship
- Low-wage worker employed full or part time
- Defined goals and expectations
- Prior computer or technical training
- Federal financial aid eligibility
- Willingness to accept academic and/or personal support
- Personal interview at UMUC

Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation Scholarship
- Awarded by the University System of Maryland
- Students who are at least 25 years of age
- Completion of at least half of courses toward degree; at least 6 credits earned at UMUC
- Demonstrated financial need
Daniel Arrill Endowed Scholarship
- Freshman or sophomore student
- Primary specialization or major in business and management
Dr. Mort Glickman Scholarship Fund
- Completion of at least 60 credits toward an undergraduate degree in human resource management or marketing
- Demonstrated financial need
GEICO Federal/Military Scholarship Fund
- Providing support to The Undergraduate School
- GPA of a 2.8 or higher
- Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester
- Demonstrated financial need
- Open to spouses and children of the following (one or both categories)
- Federal employees in grades GS-1 through GS-15
- Active duty enlisted military service members
John R. Syme Scholarship
- Spring award only
- Specialization in American history
Lisa Ferguson Memorial Scholarship Fund
- To provide assistance to busy adults who have excellent academic records
- Minimum GPA of a 2.75
- Must demonstrate financial need
Lynn Rishell Henthorn Memorial Scholarship
- Completion of 55 credits
- Pursuing a career in social work, psychology, social science, or a closely related field
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
Mark Gerencser Endowed Scholarship Fund
- Preference given to students who have incurred financial difficulty due to the death, or disability of a parent or financial supporter.
- Demonstrated financial need
Orkand Scholars Program
- Completion of 90 credits toward degree
- Minimum GPA of 3.75 at UMUC
- Demonstrated financial need
- Enrolled in at least two courses
Patricia Currey Scholarship
- Demonstrated financial need
- Majoring in psychology with academic emphasis in clinical science
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
- Membership in Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges
- Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and an associate degree
- Scholarship is renewable if a 3.0 is maintained. Non-U.S. citizens and students with previous bachelor’s degree are not eligible
Psychology Scholars Endowment Fund
- Student must be majoring in Psychology and have completed nine (9) credits or more in Psychology at UMUC, and are not in their final semester.
- GPA of a 3.0 or higher
- Demonstrated financial need
Ralph J. Klein Memorial Scholarship
- Spring award only
- Completion of 30 credits at UMUC
- Minimum GPA of 3.75 at UMUC
- A specialization in the liberal arts or sciences
- Demonstrated financial need
RSA Gives Back Foundation Scholarship
- Minimum GPA of 3.2
- Demonstrated financial need
- Majoring in Accounting at the bachelor's degree level or obtaining credits for eligibility to sit for the CPA examination, within the next 2-3 years
- Reside in Montgomery County, Md.
- Not a current employee of Rose Financial Services
The Affirm Endowed Scholarship Fund
- Awards are given to students majoring in the Information Technology or related field
- Must have completed 60 credits or more at UMUC (junior level)
- GPA of a 3.0 or higher
- Demonstrate financial need
- Requires full-time enrollment
The Joseph and Mary Ellen Hrutka Scholarship
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrated financial need
The Pateman Scholarship
- Female student entering her third year
- Interest in pursuing a career in aeronautics, aerospace engineering, or a related field
- Demonstrated financial need
The Patricia and David Westlein
- Award provides financial support to UMUC undergraduate students
- Demonstrated financial need
The Patricia Toregas Endowed Scholarship Fund
- Awards are offered to support undergraduate students majoring in Business Administration who have reached at least their junior level of study.
- Demonstrated financial need and meets one of the additional criteria listed below in the order of preference:
- GPA of 3.2, or higher
- GPA of 2.8, or higher,
- Or any qualified student
The Ruth Jacobs Arrill. '95 Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Provides support to The Undergraduate School students who are returning to school after being in the workplace for several years
- Demonstrated financial need
- Non-traditional students—defined as students who are returning to schools after being in the workforce.
- Students majoring in psychology, humanities, social science, communication, or gerontology. Students may also be qualified if they are not majoring in the above majors but are pursuing a minor in sociology, psychology, speech communication or women studies.
The Walter R. Somerville, JR Undergraduate School Business Students Endowed Scholarship Fund
- Awards are offered to support students in The Undergraduate School majoring in Business Administration
- Must be a Community College Transfer Student
- Minimum GPA of a 3.0 or higher when transferring to UMUC
- Demonstrated financial need
The Working Family Scholarship Fund
- Provides scholarship support to students who are working full-time and have family commitments (spouse and dependents)
- Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Demonstrated financial need
2012-13 Funds Have Been Awarded
UMUC has awarded all allotted funding for the 2012-13 academic year. Scholarship applications are no longer being accepted. If additional funds become available, applications will be evaluated in the order in which they were received.
