Graduation Timeline
January/February
You will receive information about the May graduation ceremony in the beginning of the year. If you have not applied for graduation or updated your student information, you will not receive this information or be able to register for Commencement. This information will give you instructions about how to RSVP for the ceremony. If you are an overseas student interested in participating in the stateside ceremony, please let your overseas division know or contact graduationserv@umuc.edu.
Last chance to apply for graduation is February 15 for May graduates. December and August graduates would already have been confirmed by this time.
March
During this month you will receive more information about the graduation ceremony including how to order regalia, if you would like to audition for the national anthem or student speaker, and so on.![]()
April
This is a good time to follow up and get prepared for graduation next month. Make sure you have ordered your regalia, sent out your announcements and made any special arrangements, if needed.
May
There will be two ceremonies (morning and afternoon), so pay close attention to the letter you receive. It will indicate the ceremony you should attend. Tickets and your name card for the ceremony will be mailed to you. Get directions to Comcast Center (154kb pdf), the site of the ceremony.
The day before the ceremony, graduates will be invited to a student reception.
