Residency Determination for Tuition Purposes
An initial determination of in-state or out-of-state residency status will be made for tuition purposes at the time you are admitted. The determination will remain in effect unless it is successfully challenged. You are responsible for providing the information necessary to establish eligibility for in-state status.
To qualify for in-state status, students must meet the requirements in the University System of Maryland (USM) policy. For the full text of the USM policy, see http://www.umsa.umd.edu/regents/bylaws/SectionVIII/VIII270.html.
If you wish to apply for a change to in-state status, you must file a completed Petition for Change in Classification for Tuition. You must submit the petition form no later than the last day of late registration for a semester or session (earlier is preferable) in order to be considered for in-state status for that semester or session. See the Academic Calendar for the specific deadlines for submitting a petition form.
