Carina Freeman – 2013 Student Advisory Council Representative, Stateside
Carina Freeman is currently a full-time student in the Asian division of University of Maryland University College (UMUC). In addition to pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Political Science, she is a professional portrait photographer. Carina is also a meditation instructor, an aromatherapist, and a holistic health practitioner, and she holds several other professional certifications.
Although Carina was born and raised in a large family in southern New Jersey, she currently resides in Okinawa, Japan, with her active-duty military husband and three children. Carina’s future includes returning to her home state of New Jersey, where she plans to seek election to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Throughout her life, Carina has always been there for others, which led her to humanitarian and volunteer efforts, including the following:
- Teaching CPR and first aid with the American Red Cross
- Working as a North Carolina state paramedic for seven years
- Serving as chapter president of "Safe Kids" in North Carolina
- Coaching a cheerleading squad
- Serving as Student Ambassador for UMUC Kinser base, Okinawa, Japan
With a wide range of experience, Carina is enthusiastic about life and dedicated to higher education. She has always had the ability and desire to speak for others. Recognizing that a strong voice was needed for students at UMUC (Asia Division) she joined the Student Advisory Council to be that voice while bringing out the best in people and situations.
